Fun Family Guide Things to do in Savannah
My sister decided that she wanted to have a destination wedding in Savannah, GA. We decided to make it a family vacation since we have never been, since could only squeeze in one vacation trip with my nursing classes this summer. We were going to fly but when I mentioned that we could make a stop at Gatlinburg on the way down, we drove.
3 Highly Recommended Family Things to do in Savannah
Things to do in Savannah
Visit Tybee Island
One of the first things we did was check out Tybee Island. This was a chance for us to go to the beach and for Andy to get sunburned (we did not have the right sunscreen for him, my bad). We sent 5 hours at the beach. I got sit down and relax and listen to my favorite podcast. Victoria learned how to float in the ocean. Tyler got a chance to dig holes in the sand.
Tips for Tybee Island – 1. Download the Tybee Island parking app. You can pay over the phone and you don’t have to go to the car to pay the meter after 2 hrs. 2. There was a place on the beach where we rent a set of umbrellas and chairs for $30. So 2 less things to worry about bringing to the beach.
Check out Forsyth Park
One of the must visit and things to do in Savannah is Forsyth Park. This is the park with the famous fancy fountain. The fountain is beautiful and a must see. But once you see it, kids will not be impressed by it to say the least. Luckily, this park as a playground for kids. In fact there’s two playground separated by age which is nice. There is also lots of green space to play outdoor games and have a picnic.
Take a Ghost Tour
The Savannah Historic District is has tons of history and stories. Victoria actually suggested doing this after looking at the brochures of all the things to do in the hotel. There are several tours available. We did the 90 minute walking tour. It’s more historically with some slight scary tales. It is great for the kids because they were not too scared afterwards. Last thing we wanted to do is have kids waking up us at night because they are afraid to sleep.
Best Restaurants in Savannah
We did not get a chance to try all the restaurants, but this are the best places we enjoyed. If you like seafood, we recommend the Seafood Shack.
And for dessert, we enjoyed Lulu’s. We devoured the cake so quickly because it looked that good. They have quite a few desserts. We had the chocolate cake.
A place we would want to try, but everyday we came by there was a line – Leopold’s Ice Cream. Even at 10:30pm at night there is a line and they close at 11pm.
Savannah Tip – download the parking app here too. We always planned to come back, however life with kids happened. So, this app was nice to have.
