The holidays are here. Holiday shopping has started if you have not started earlier this year. When it comes to gifts, you don’t blow your budget or overspend this year. Here are some ways to save big on holiday gifts this holiday season this year. We have used some of these ideas in previous years and it works for our family, so I am sharing how to save money on gift giving during the holiday season.
1. Have Limit Gift Rule- It’s tempting to buy everything on the list. I know I have wanted to. We now have a limit on how many gifts are kids receive. Why? It helps save money for us. Also, sets our kids to know their limits and they will always receive everything they want even if it is Christmas. You can also focus on gifts that truly meaning and useful such as getting something to wear, something to read, something that’s for fun and something they need.
2. Have a Theme – Every child has a thing they love (same with adults). For my kids, Pokemon is the thing. If your family loves Star Wars, there’s a theme. Harry Potter fans, tons of gift ideas and so on. Honestly, there is something for everyone. Also, this goes well with the limit rule too and limit your spending and have a gift that really speaks to what they love (right now).
3. The Experience Gift- Sometimes you just feel like you are buying stuff and that stuff may be useful for few days, months and then forgotten about. If this is how you feel give the gift of experience. Now, the experience can be interpreted in several different ways. For us, we gave the gift of experience by traveling for Christmas. It can be a membership to a museum, aquarium or the zoo. Getting season tickets to concerts or theater. These gifts keep giving long after the holidays and usually worth it in the end.
These are just a few ideas to save. Have a family tradition way to save on gift giving this holiday season, please share below.
