Summer is here and we want to highlight some free things to do in Indianapolis this summer (with kids) because school is out. It’s time to get out and explore some fun things to do with the family.
Free Things to do in Indianapolis this Summer
Free Bowling
Punch Bowl Social has free bowling for kids from June 15th to August 31st(Mondays-Wednesdays from 11-2 with that parent supervision). We got the chance to check out bowling with the twins and they enjoyed it (check out our Indianapolis highlights on IG). We had lunch afterwards. Plan a playdate and take the kids bowling and enjoy the coffee bar and sweets for Sweeties.
Fishers Summer Concert Series
Get out doors and jam to some music. Every Tuesday join Fishers Parks & Recreation for music presented by IU Health Saxony. Concerts start at 7PM and end around 9PM starting June 5th until August 7th. Coolers and lawn chairs are welcome. Free parking is available in the public parking garages located in The Flats at Switch and The Depot at Nickel Plate to the east and west (respectively) of City Hall, as well as in the City Hall parking lots. View the Parking Map (PDF) for more info.
Indianapolis Library
Indianapolis libraries have tons of stuff for the kids besides reading programs and story time. Our local libraries offer lots activities for all age groups such as movie and game nights, Minecraft and lego building and much more. Check out the calendar of events on the Indianapolis Public Library events page and find out what is going on at a library near you.
Downtown Canal
We discovered the Canal when Pokemon Go was a big thing. We enjoy going to the canal and walking and enjoying people watching, playing Pokemon Go, having ice cream and riding bikes. On certain days you can hear music from the White River State Park concerts, free music from the Eiteljorg Museum or activities from the Indiana State Museum.
Fairbanks Nature Park at Newfields
Enjoy nature? Then Fairbanks Park is where you should be. Explore woodlands, wetlands, meadows, and the shoreline of a 35-acre lake. This park one of the largest museum art parks in the country. On the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month you can take the family on a tour at 11:30pm. Admission and parking is free. Find out more about Fairbanks Park at Newfields here.
