Hate mornings? You are not alone. I am not a morning person at all. I joke that I was a morning person once in my life. It was one semester in college. I have class at 8am. I got before my alarm to get ready for day. It only lasted that semester. It isn’t like I haven’t tried to be a morning person. It just isn’t for me.
I know that I am more of a night owl. That is my true nature and when I hit my full awakeness. However, as a mama I can’t just live my best night owl life. My kids do need to get up in the morning and have a good routine despite my night owl nature. So, yes I do hate mornings, but I am able to have a successful morning with this tips.
Tips to Have a Successful Morning When You Hate Mornings
Ring the Alarm
Have a pleasant alarm sound that actually wakes you up. I have had the buzz and the annoying sound that wakes me up and it is not motivating or pleasant. Yes, I am up but I am more irritated. I have gone through a few alarm sounds to find the right one. I also have had to change it a few times because the pleasant one does get annoying (or I have associated with mornings and then I have mental morning block). Luckily, I don’t see a shortage in alarm sounds anytime soon.
The Most Important Meal of the Day
Having your favorite foods for breakfast. I am not a coffee person, but I am a breakfast person. So, if you get excited about having a French vanilla coffee made in the morning. Stock up. I enjoy eggs with some bacon or sausage in the morning. Bonus for pancakes/waffles or making grits. Those are the breakfast staples in my home. I won’t skip breakfast and it is the most important meal of the day right?
Preparation
Setup for or brain dump for the next day. If you can get your clothes, your kids clothes, homework and ready to go the night before to help you setup for the next day. This helps you get a few extra minutes of sleep. Plus, helps you not be frizzled or worried about things in the morning which will only make you continue your dislike for mornings. Brain dump also helps you unwind your mind and let go for the day.
Good Vibrations
Once you are up. Turn up the music. Do you have a favorite radio station? Have a favorite playlist? Play it in the morning. Spotify made a list of best of music to and with music psychologist David M. Greenberg to create that ideal playlist, scientifically engineered to help you wake up easily and happily. Here’s the best songs to listen to in the morning according to them.
Other suggestions
Now, these are suggestions I have not tried, but I can see how they could work.
- Diffuse Lemon or orange essential oils.
- Coffee lovers. Set a timer for coffee and the smell of the aroma will help you wake up.
- Create a morning mantra or morning affirmation.
- Have a bed time ritual.
Sarah says
I am definitely not a morning person. I was when I was younger, but most of my life I have been a night owl. I have tried to become a morning person before but it wasn’t successful. I’m going to give it another try using these tips and hopefully this time I can shift into more of a morning person.
