If you are reading this it’s no shave November or soon to be. It gives me a reason to actually not shave because sometimes it is just easier not to do it. Unfortunately, having a beard gives me dry skin and can be unruly. Now my wife isn’t crazy about it or sometimes how I shape it. However, she and kids love it and I wanted to share the husband’s guide to the beard life. Here are things I do that gets them on board to loving the beard.
The Husband’s Guide to the Beard Life
Here are a few things I have in my arsenal that every husband should have.
Shampoo
I know it maybe weird to purchase shampoo for your beard but they are a must have. I use and recommend Mr. Natty Natty’s Face Forest Soap Shampoo. This helps with frizziness and unruly hairs.
DIY Beard Oil
Eghe enjoys the beard oil because of the smell. I like it because it helps with the dryness I get. So, here’s my (concocted by her) DIY Beard Oil Recipe.
1/2 oz coconut oil
1/2 oz jojoba oil
12 drops of lavender (my wife likes Young Living Oils)
12 drops of rosemary
Melt the coconut oil first and then mix all the ingredients well in an oil bottle or we use empty Young Living oil bottles. It’s best to use right after the shower while the beard is still damp. So, there you go – DIY Beard Oil.
If you want a more woodsy smell, try cedarwood oil & sandalwood oil instead of lavender oil and rosemary oil.
You can also purchase an oil as well.
Balm
If you do not want to bother with an oil. You can do a balm instead. I use the Honest Amish Heavy Duty Balm. This balm has great oils in it as well and also helps with dryness as well. We also like the Organic Butter Balm Conditioner and it comes with a brush which is a must for all men in my option.
Brush, Comb, Hands
If you can get bed head, you can get bed beard. I suggest grabbing a brush or comb. I am brush guy and using my hands (or Eghe’s) when my beard gets longer.
So, those are the tools you need. Any questions?
