It has been interesting to see the how the world changes as you grow older. How your point of view changes. I remember as a child (specifically from junior high to first year in college) wanting to fit in and to just be like everyone else. To have the same brands, to have my hair done a certain way. I did not want to stand out AT ALL. Now, motherhood has changed that for me.
I now I am different. I always have been. But I never embraced it as I have now. When Cents of Style reached out to me and asked and provided t-shirt for me to be a part of the Be Series Graphic T-Shirts series for Fashion Friday, I knew what shirt I wanted – Be Uncommon.
I am learning to be just be and my just be is to be uncommon. Being uncommon is embracing the uniqueness of me and my life. My life as a me is very diverse (which I talked about living a diverse life) and unique. I am a mama of beautiful biracial twins and married to the funniest white guy I know and love. Born in Nigeria but raised in the south, but oddly have no southern accent. I love my natural hair (most days). And have you heard my laugh (and these are just a few fun facts about me).
So, while I think I was afraid to be me when I was younger, I think the world has changed a little to embrace uniqueness. Also, seeing the world bend a little where young kids can be themselves more; and embrace who they are, but there is still work to be done.
This is my message for Fashion Friday – wear you proudly. Check out Cents of Style Be Series t-shirts and for a limited time grab them for $15.95 + free shipping with promo code BESTORY.
