Our family is a loves sushi. However, I know how expensive sushi can be. Thanks for my BFF, we discovered how to make a sushi bowl (some may call this a sushi poke bowl, tomato/tomahto) that we can make at home that would 1) satisfy us until our next visit to the our favorite sushi place and 2) was cost effective.
I love making sushi bowls because they are so easy to make. I can just grab the ingredients and make them that night in under 30 minutes.

How to Make a Sushi Bowl Recipe
Cook the rice ahead of time if you want your sushi bowl to be cooler side. Set aside.
While rice is cooking dice mangoes.
In skillet, heat oil. Add shrimp and cook until opaque. About 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
Slice ahi tuna in 3/4 in cubes.
Slice avocados.
Fix your bowl – add 1 1/2 cup of rice, then add shrimp, mango, avocado, and ahi tuna. Sprinkle some sesame seeds. Add yum yum sauce or spicy. Top with crumbled roasted seaweed.
Add wasabi or ginger in the bowl if you like. It’s optional.
Enjoy!
Sushi Bowl Variations
The nice thing about sushi bowls is that you can switch up the recipe. You make just an ahi tuna sushi bowl. Just leave out the shrimp.
You can replace the ahi tuna for baked salmon for those who are allergy to ahi tuna. Add some cucumbers.
Make a California version and use the following ingredients.
- cucumbers
- crab meat
- carrots
- avocado
- *sriracha mayo or spicy sauce
*DIY sriracha mayo :
- 1/2 cup high quality mayonnaise
- 1-2 tablespoons sriracha
Stir together the mayonnaise and sriracha. Add more sriracha if you want more spiciness.
Just think of your favorite sushi roll and see how you can make a sushi bowl from it.
