If you are thinking about a camping trip you are going to have to also think about how to feed yourself and your family when you are camping. You needs to take along some camping cookware whether you are planning to make food or made some pre-made meal prep camping entrees. Also, not to mention the equipment is going in a backpack to be carried in something.
If you are a beginner to camping but plan take a few family camping trips, then you will need to put together some basic camping cookware to prepare your meals in or warm some baked beans up in. Then again, you could just eat cold baked beans, but that will get old really quickly.
When you hit the camping store or online camping store shop, you may be confused at the myriad of choice which awaits you. Thus it is best to be pre-prepared and have some idea of the best choices for you, rather than be endlessly distracted by things which aren’t suitable for your needs.
The essential thing you will need is something to heat your food in, and either a pot or a frying pan is the most practical choice or even one of each. You should bear in mind that you will be cooking under the elements, so a good fitting lid is essential to cook the food more quickly and efficiently without burning lots of wood. You should look for a lid which has other purposes such as being a handy strainer or a plate.
Camping Pans
Your typical camping pans come in different materials such as cast iron, aluminum, copper, and titanium. If you don’t want to spend massive amounts of dollars, then aluminum is the best cheapest option. However, titanium is the overall best option but the most expensive.
Titanium has the advantage of being the lightest option, which is a big concern if you’ll be carrying it around on your backpack. It is also the most durable. Cast iron might attract you and also works. However, if you are backpacking with the family, I would not recommend this as an option.
You can also invest into a camping cooking set.
Camping Tableware & Camping Mugs
In addition to something to cook your food in, you will need something to eat it with, and there is plenty of choice in fold up cutlery, which is the safest option to carry and folds neatly inside your pots and pans. You can opt for tin plates and mugs for the authentic outdoor feel, or pack plastic ones.
Insulated mugs or flasks are the best choices for your drinks as they keep your beverage warmer longer, which is excellent for those cold nighttime temperatures.
You can also start off with paper plates if you are not sure what you want. If you find that camping is an interest that family would like take up more often, then you can always head back to the camping store to stock up on more camping cookware. For a beginner though a pan, a pot, a plate, a cup/mug and a spoon (for each family member) should cover your needs.
